WATCH: Deuce Spann Breaks The Rock After Game-Changing Touchdown In Comeback

Spann was rightfully honored after Florida State's win for his game-changing kick return touchdown.

The game was threatening to get away from Florida State before the end of the first quarter. The Seminoles had failed to convert on back-to-back fourth down attempts on their first two possessions and were reeling following an ill-advised throw by quarterback Jordan Travis that led to a pick-six.

FSU was looking for a spark to come from anywhere and then it finally did from an unexpected source. On the ensuing kickoff, redshirt junior wide receiver Deuce Spann fielded the kick from the one-yard line. He ran up the middle of the field prior to staying alive through contact and breaking out to the left side.

At this point, Spann turned on the afterburners and left everyone in the dust, except for fellow wide receiver Hykeem Williams, who came chasing after him. The play resulted in a 99-yard touchdown and just as importantly, flipped the momentum while sending Doak Campbell Stadium into an uproar.

Despite not recording a catch, Spann came away as one of the heroes of the night. Head coach Mike Norvell said after the game that the team had been preparing the play throughout the week.

"We knew Deuce was ready. He's been working. He's been preparing. I was talking to him throughout the week, and even in the pregame, just be ready for this," Norvell said. "When I saw him when he hit the seam and was able to -- great job by all guys blocking. They battled through that, but when he hit the seam, I knew nobody was going to catch him. That was the momentum we needed. It was a huge boost to our team. Deuce actually got to break the rock because it was such a big play in the game that I think really sparked us."

Following the game, Spann was rightfully honored with the opportunity to break the rock for his game-changing touchdown which also happened to be the first score of his career.

Keon Coleman earned the sledgehammer after scoring three touchdowns in his debut with the program against LSU. Trey Benson joined him the following week after recording a hat-trick of his own and broke another rock after rushing for 200 yards against Virginia Tech. DJ Lundy had the honor against Boston College following a performance that included an interception and a rushing touchdown. Linebacker Kalen DeLoach broke the rock after a game-changing forced fumble that he returned for a touchdown against Clemson.

Benson got another chance to swing the hammer with a 200+ yard performance in the win over Virginia Tech. Coleman joined him for another honor alongside Shyheim Brown and Adam Fuller after a total team performance in a blowout against Syracuse.
