FSU Football To Be Without Trio Of Players For At Least Remainder Of Spring
Florida State head coach Mike Norvell began his post-practice press conference on Tuesday evening by revealing that a trio of players will be for out for the remainder of the spring. The Seminoles will be without redshirt senior offensive tackle Robert Scott, redshirt junior defensive tackle Joshua Farmer, and true freshman cornerback Jamari Howard over the next few weeks, and potentially even longer.
Scott and Farmer are still working their way back from injuries that they suffered last season. Norvell expects both of them to be back in action for summer workouts and preseason camp. Farmer had surgery on his thumb following the ACC Championship and missed the Orange Bowl while Scott underwent a procedure this offseason after struggling to stay on the field over the past two years.
“Rob Scott will be out throughout this spring. Also Josh Farmer will be out throughout this spring,” Norvell said. “Both of those guys, fully expect them to be ready to go for summer workouts and all that.”
Howard went down during a recent practice and could miss a significant amount of time, per Norvell. The injury might sideline him into the fall depending on how he progresses during rehab. That’s an unfortunate revelation for the early enrollee after he made a splash in his first couple of practices.
“Unfortunately, Jamari Howard is going to be out the rest of this spring and that injury will take him into this next season. We’ll kind of see where that goes on availability. Really was having a good first couple of days but unfortunately went down and we’ll have to see the progress in that rehabilitation coming back. I just wanted to give you those on guys who will be out for the remainder of spring and we’ll kind of see where that goes.”
Scott is a veteran starter with plenty of experience after earning 30 starts during his career. He was banged up for much of 2023 and even missed last spring. Scott is an All-ACC talent when he’s healthy but that hasn’t been often as of late. He is a true wildcard as his presence in the lineup would lift the entire offensive line but that can’t be counted on at this time.
Farmer has developed into a rising star after continuing to grow year-over-year. He’s coming off a season where he was named Second-Team All-ACC after recording 32 tackles, seven tackles for loss, five sacks, one forced fumble, and two pass breakups. Farmer’s best football is still ahead of him and he’ll likely start alongside friend and running mate, Darrell Jackson.
Howard enrolled at Florida State in January as a blue-chip prospect in the 2024 class. He totaled 50 tackles, ten tackles for loss, one sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one interception during his senior season. He was part of a highly-regarded defensive back class that also included four-star Charles Lester III, four-star Cai Bates, and four-star Ricky Knight III.
Spring practices continues on Thursday with the Seminoles preparing for their first scrimmage. NoleGameday will have full coverage when things wrap up as Norvell, offensive coordinator Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller, and special teams coordinator John Papuchis plan to meet with the media.
