Mike Norvell Details What He Expects from FSU Football's Second Scrimmage

"I think we're in a really good spot to go see guys continue to compete."

Florida State wrapped up its seventh practice of the spring on Thursday and now has its second scrimmage in sight on April 5. The Seminoles have had a productive spring despite losing multiple players early due to injury.

Head coach Mike Norvell met with the media after Thursday's practice to discuss the progress the team has made and what he expects from the upcoming scrimmage.

"Leading into the second scrimmage, I think we're in a really good spot to go see guys continue to compete. As you go through spring, you want to see passion, you want to see fight, you want to see guys that are coming out working to get better each day," Norvell said. "And I think we're seeing that. But still, just a lot of fundamental things that we get to work to clean up."

With so many question marks on the roster, transfers like quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, Earl Little, Jr., wide receiver Malik Benson and running back Jaylin Lucas have a chance to fill holes on the roster alongside numerous freshmen who joined the Seminoles in 2024. Norvell said that the second scrimmage will try to place the team in reactive situations as opposed to the first in which there were more scripted scenarios.

"We're going to let them play a little bit more rather than just having a set situation. We'll try to put guys in less created situations but more reactive situations to what happened. So, (it's) probably going to be pretty similar in play count," Norvell continued. "I want to see probably around 100. If we get a little bit more than that, we'll go there. But just (have) the guys go out there and play, and execute, and be better than they were a week ago."

Norvell said after the first scrimmage that he thought it was a good opportunity to see where his team is, the second can only lend more insight as the 'Noles look ahead to the 2024 season.
