2013 National Champion, NFL Veteran Addresses Seminoles On The Eve Of Preseason Camp

There's no one better from FSU's players to hear from ahead of a highly-anticipated season than a former national champion.

Florida State is preparing for what could be a special year in Tallahassee in 2023. The Seminoles will begin preseason camp on Thursday as the team returns to the practice fields for the first time since the spring with an actual opponent to look forward to.

Entering a season that will mark the ten-year anniversary of the program's last national championship, head coach Mike Norvell brought in a special guest to provide the Seminoles with some extra motivation. There isn't anyone better than FSU's players can hear from ahead of a highly-anticipated season than a former national champion.

Former Florida State star, 2013 national champion, and NFL veteran, Lamarcus Joyner, returned to Tallahassee this week to speak to the team on the eve of preseason camp.

While there haven't been any video clips of Joyner's speech to make it to social media just yet, this is the latest effort by Norvell to have former Seminoles who have been at the pinnacle of the sport in the past share their experiences with the team. In fact, multiple members of the 2013 national championship team have been on campus this offseason including Jameis Winston and Nick O'Leary (who is now on staff).

Joyner signed with the Seminoles in 2010 as one of the most-heralded prospects in Jimbo Fisher's first recruiting class as the head coach at FSU. He changed the culture and developed into a strong leader as well as an impact player during his time with the program.

The Florida native started during his final three years at Florida State, recording a career-high 69 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two interceptions, and four deflections in 2013. He ended up being named a unanimous All-American and First-Team All-ACC while guiding the Seminoles to a victory in the final BCS National Championship Game against Auburn.

Joyner was selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft and has spent the last nine years playing for the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams (2014-18), Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders (2019-20), and New York Jets (2021-22). He's totaled 478 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, three interceptions, and 39 pass deflections during his professional career. Joyner is not currently signed to a team for the 2023 season.
