Baltimore Ravens Agree To Deal With Former Florida State National Champion

The former Seminole is looking to bounce back after an ACL tear ended his campaign last year.

The Baltimore Ravens have been dealing with some injuries in the defensive backfield throughout training camp. Starting cornerback Marlon Humphrey is expected to miss up to a month after having surgery on his foot yesterday. That has the team exploring its options ahead of the regular season.

On Thursday, the Ravens signed veteran cornerback Ronald Darby to a one-year deal worth up to $3.2 million according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Baltimore brought Darby in for a visit earlier in the day. He was receiving plenty of interest around the league after previously working out with the Houston Texans, Minnesota Vikings, and Tennessee Titans.

Darby is coming off the second ACL tear of his career but it appears that he's recovered ahead of his ninth year in the NFL. He was drafted in the second round by the Buffalo Bills in 2015 and has also suited up for the Philadelphia Eagles (2017-19), Washington Football Team (2020), and Denver Broncos (2021-22). Darby was most recently with the Broncos but wasn't retained following his injury.

The veteran has been on a championship team during his career, something that Baltimore will be pushing for after agreeing to a long-term contract with star quarterback Lamar Jackson. Darby was a member of the Eagles when the team defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. He has totaled 373 tackles, eight tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, eight interceptions, and 90 pass deflections during his career.

The Maryland native spent three years at Florida State after joining the program under former head coach Jimbo Fisher as a blue-chip prospect. He earned ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year honors after breaking up seven passes during his first year on campus.

Darby pulled down two interceptions the following year as the Seminoles rolled over the competition en route to a victory against Auburn in the final BCS National Championship. The success continued into 2014 as Darby totaled 43 tackles, one forced fumble, and four pass breakups as Florida State appeared in the inaugural College Football Playoff.
