With an opportunity to defend their championship this past season, the Rams ended up compiling a 5-12 record amidst a disappointing campaign. The team set the record for most losses by a defending Super Bowl champion and were only the 17th francise to missing the playoffs are winning a ring.
Despite holding one of the top head coaches in the league in Sean McVay alongside a roster that includes Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp, Jalen Ramsey, Matthew Stafford, Cam Akers, and others, there's no guarantee the group will respond from the slump in 2023.
That's led to speculation that the Rams could move on from former Florida State star and All-Pro cornerback, Jalen Ramsey. With two years remaining on his five-year/$100-million contract, he'll make an average of $15 million per season during that time.
However, Los Angeles could save north of $15 million if the franchise cuts Ramsey this offseason. in 2023, he'll have a cap hit of $26.7 million but that number would be reduced to $11.4 million if Ramsey is released. It's important to note that the Rams are nearly $15 million over the cap already.
The former Seminole and NFL star addressed the situation on social media with a clear message.
"100% chance I WON'T get cut [laughing emoji]...God bless tho."
It would be almost laughable and a decision based on panic if the Rams were to cut Ramsey. He's proven himself to be one of the best defenders in the league as he's been named to six consecutive Pro Bowls (2017-22), is a three-time First-Team All-Pro (2017, 2020, 2021), and a Super Bowl champion.
Plus, there's almost a guarantee that the franchise would be able to find an attractive package on the trade market for Ramsey. He's an asset that multiple clubs would love to have.
