Former Florida State Star Sets Career High Against Los Angeles Lakers
Former Florida State star Devin Vassell set a new career high last night, scoring 36 points in a San Antonio Spurs win over the Los Angeles Lakers. It's the Spurs' first win since November 2nd, breaking a losing streak of 18 games.
On top of the 36 points, Vassell chipped in 6 rebounds and 3 assists, while shooting 12/19 from the floor, 5/10 from 3, and a perfect 7/7 from the free throw line. He shattered his previous career high of 29 points, which he had done four times. Vassell has made massive strides inside the arc so far this season, jumping his 2PT% from around 48% the last three seasons to 57.4%, and it's a big reason why he's in the middle of another great year. Despite it being his first-ever 30-point game, he's been super consistent, averaging around 18 PPG.
Former Florida State Quarterback Heading Back West To Continue College Career
Vassell signed a massive contract extension this past summer to stay in San Antonio, worth $146 million over five years, locking him into a long-term deal with rookie sensation Victor Wembenyama, who has been getting better as the season progresses. What the team desperately needs is some playmaking to help Vassell, Wembenyama, and Keldon Johnson.
Following two seasons at Florida State, Devin Vassell declared for the NBA Draft after the infamous 2019-20 season, where he was selected 11th overall by the Spurs. He averaged 12.7 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 1.4 SPG while shooting 41.5% from 3 his sophomore season in Tallahassee, which was good enough to be a lottery pick. He's added a much-needed 20 pounds of muscle since getting to the NBA, and has become a good NBA player that should be a starter for the foreseeable future.
