Former FSU Guard Opens Preseason With Game Winner For Atlanta Hawks

The former Seminole continues his trend of big plays in clutch moments.

Some things never change. Death. Taxes. Trent Forrest hitting game-winners. Forrest was quite the late-game specialist in his time at Florida State, including a few game-winners against Notre Dame, Clemson, and Purdue. He's back at it again, this time with one in the NBA Preseason with the Atlanta Hawks, who were taking on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

This is vintage Trent Forrest, he gets to his spot in the mid-to-high post, backs a smaller defender down, and hits a tough turnaround on the first possession before a difficult and-one in the final possession to give the Hawks the lead. The basket tied the game and he nailed the free throw to complete a comeback victory.

Forrest has always been great about finishing through smaller players, and it's no exception here. The final play looks honestly pretty similar to how he ended the Clemson game in 2018, just from the other side of the basket, with an awkward angle but he finds a way to make it work.

Forrest is currently on his second two-way contract with the Hawks after spending last season in Atlanta on the same deal. A two-way contract just means he'll split time between the G-League affiliate and the Hawks, though there are chances he could be signed on full-time, or released and be free to sign elsewhere.

He spent four seasons at Florida State from 2016-2020 and ended his career as the winningest player in program history and with an ACC Championship. Forrest is one of 49 players with 1,000 career points at FSU, one of 34 members with 500 career rebounds, is 5th all-time at FSU in career assists, and tied for 13th all-time in steals. Legitimately one of the greatest to ever do it in Tallahassee, and everyone will wonder what that 2020 NCAA Tournament could've looked like if not for COVID-19 canceling the tournament.
