Only one team in the XFL remains winless through the opening five weeks of the league's ten-game regular season - the Orlando Guardians. The team is coming off a 35-32 defeat to the previously winless Vegas Vipers. With that being said, most of the games haven't been competitive as the Guardians have been outscored 152-81 during the first half of the season.

That has head coach Terrell Buckley looking to shake a couple of things up to try and right the ship in Orlando.

On Tuesday, the Orlando Sentinel's Matt Murschel reported that the Guardians were hiring Devin Bush Sr. as a defensive analyst. Bush spent his college career at Florida State from 1991-94 and is coming off a stint as a coach at Michigan and Ole Miss.

It's expected that Bush Sr. will spend time working with Orlando's defensive backfield. The team has only generated two interceptions, which both came in the season-opener, and three turnovers overall in five games. The Guardians have surrendered 13 touchdown passes, including three last week.

Buckley has infused his staff in Orlando with multiple coaches that have ties to Florida State. Bush Sr. joins a group of assistant coaches that also include defensive coordinator Tony Carter and linebackers coach Mark Snyder. Carter played for the Seminoles on the defensive side of the ball while Snyder spent a couple of years in Tallahassee as a coach under Jimbo Fisher. Quarterback Deondre Francois, linebacker Terrance Smith, and linebacker DeCalon Brooks are players on the roster.

Bush Sr. played at Florida State under the legendary Bobby Bowden. He was a member of the program's first national championship team in 1993 while earning All-ACC honors in his final two seasons at the college level. Bush Sr. recorded a career-high 75 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and two interceptions as a senior.

The Florida native was selected in the first round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. He spent eight years in the league with the Falcons, St. Louis Rams, and Cleveland Browns, totaling 428 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, five forced fumbles, 13 pass deflections, seven interceptions, and three defensive touchdowns in 116 games.

His coaching career is still just getting started. Bush Sr. was at Michigan as a defensive analyst from 2016-19 prior to spending the last three seasons at Ole Miss as director of football recruiting/lead analyst.

Bush Sr. is the father to Devin Bush Jr, a linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks who played collegiately at Michigan.
