WATCH: Saints Fans Get Full Jameis Winston Experience In Near Comeback Against Vikings
Jameis Winston is back in action for the New Orleans Saints, as he replaced an injured Derek Carr in the third quarter against the Minnesota Vikings. Just a few plays after checking in, Winston threw a dime to Chris Olave for one of the most impressive catches you'll see all season.
Olave didn't have a reception or target before Winston came in for relief of Carr, who was carted off of the field after initially going back to the sideline. Down 27-3, the former Heisman winner and Florida State National Champion came in late in the drive and went 3/3 for 34 yards, with two completions to Olave.
Two possessions later, Jameis had another ridiculous throw and catch to AT Perry for his first career touchdown reception on a pass he really had no reason to throw, rolling left all the way back to the far right side of the field.
This is Winston's 4th appearance for the Saints this season, getting most of the action against the Green Bay Packers in late September, but he also came in for late-game snaps against the New England Patriots and his old team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It was announced that Carr was out with a right shoulder injury and concussion, as he went down after a big hit from Vikings' EDGE rusher Danielle Hunter, but the offense was having no success with the former Raider under center, and Winston came in and immediately got a touchdown. The Saints do have a bye next week to give Carr time to heal if they decide to roll with him instead of Jameis in Week 12 against the Atlanta Falcons.
The former 1st overall pick out of Florida State for the Buccaneers has been waiting in the wings for the Saints the last couple of seasons, dealing with injuries, and backing up Carr and Drew Brees, but many FSU fans have been wanting to see him get another opportunity. There was a rumor going around that the Vikings were interested in trading for him after their starter, Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles against the Packers right before the trade deadline, but they went with Josh Dobbs instead, who is off to an impressive start in his Vikings career.
New Orleans ultimately ended up falling short as Winston finished 13/25 for 122 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He was picked off on the final drive with the Saints driving to potentially tie the contest.
