Five-Star Defensive Lineman Armondo Blount Feels At Home At Florida State

The Seminoles are trending in the right direction for one of the top prospects in the nation.

Florida State hosted its annual Seminole Showcase over the weekend which featured top-tier talent from across the country. With commits like five-star defensive back, Charles Lester III and five-star tight end Landen Thomas paired with four-star quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, running back Kam Davis, and wide receiver BJ Gibson.

The Seminoles have been on a recruiting hot streak to match the July weather in Tallahassee, Florida. Lester committed to the 'Noles over the weekend along with four-star offensive lineman Manasse Itete who head coach Mike Norvell and Co. managed to flip from his USC pledge on Saturday.

Another major target for the 'Noles is five-star defensive lineman Armando Blount, who unofficially visited for Saturday's event.

"I feel like I was at home," Blount said to NoleGameday's Tommy Mire. "I was learning today. I was learning more about football and better ways to improve my season."

If he does commit to the Seminoles, he would be getting coached by one of the longest-tenured position coaches in the country Odell Haggins. Blount took the time to listen to all of Haggins' tips during the workout.

"I'm just taking it all in, learning and listening to what they saying when they teaching."

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound lineman said that he's enjoying the process and that he doesn't really have a list of top schools right now. He added that although he didn't get a chance to have a sit-down talk with Norvell on this visit, he mentioned that 'it's different", and his energy shows.

"It's different, like, coach Mike, he's active with his players," Blount said. "Last time I came he was running with the D-Line, he was active, he was yelling, screaming, and that's the type of energy I need around me."

A return visit for the young lineman out of Miami Central is in order. When asked if he would return, Blount nodded his head and smiled.

"Yes, of course. I want to get up to a game. I don't know what game."

There are a plethora of programs after Blount's talents. Schools like Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Miami, and many more have offered and he said that he plans on visiting the Hurricanes, Buckeyes, and Crimson Tide before it is all said and done.

"I'm gonna go to Miami for sure. Ohio State—I'm trying to get up to Ohio State—and Alabama."

One of Blount's main recruiters is linebackers coach Randy Shannon, who, to his surprise, has known his mother since she ran track as a kid.

"I talk to Coach Shannon a lot. You know what's crazy? He's close with my mom. He knew my mom since she was a kid, so I got a close relationship with him," Blount added. "It was a shock because, we had found out when coach Shannon, he heard my momma's name, he said 'I remember you from when you were a girl.'"

Armondo Blount is currently ranked the No. 5 player nationally in his class and the No. 1 player in the state of Florida. He's been on Florida State's radar since March of 2021 when they gave him an official offer.
