Blue-Chip Defensive Back Includes FSU Football In Top Ten List

The Seminoles are in the running for a lengthy and athletic defensive back.

Florida State is beginning to make traction on building out its 2025 class. The Seminoles only hold four commitments through the first two months of the new year but are putting themselves in a position to go on a run when the spring and summer arrive.

On Tuesday afternoon, four-star defensive back Gregory Xavier Thomas announced his top-10 schools as he gets closer to a decision. Florida State made the cut alongside Miami, LSU, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Colorado, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.

The Seminoles have been pursuing Thomas since last summer after he picked up an offer during the Seminole Showcase in July. He's quickly developed into one of FSU's top targets in the defensive backfield as he'll likely slide into the safety spot at the next level.

The Florida native returned to Tallahassee twice during the season to watch the Seminoles inside Doak Campbell Stadium. He was in attendance for wins over Duke and Miami. Thomas was recently back in town for a Junior Day where he was able to catch up with head coach Mike Norvell, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller, and defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr.

Thomas plays at American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale. That's the same program Surtain Sr. used to coach before he made the leap to the Miami Dolphins, and eventually, Florida State.

There are plenty of qualities to like about his game as Thomas is a ballhawk who constantly puts himself in position for interceptions and pass breakups. He's long, athletic, and does a good job of getting his head around to find the ball in the air. Outside of football, Thomas also runs track where he recorded an 11.56-second 100-meter dash as a sophomore.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back is regarded as the No. 111 overall prospect, the No. 13 CB, and the No. 16 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.
