BREAKING: Florida State Lands Commitment From Hard-Hitting Linebacker
It's been a minute since Florida State landed a commitment dating back to Four-Star wide receiver TJ Abrams' pledge at the end of January. Some of that is by design as the Seminoles are focused on quality over quantity with some of the top prospects in the country on the recruiting board.
On Monday night, 2024 linebacker Jayden Parrish announced his decision to commit to Florida State on social media. Minutes later, head coach Mike Norvell confirmed the news with his signature tweet. Parrish was recently offered by the Seminoles at the end of March.
"First off, I wanna thank God for allowing me to be in this position, my parents and also my coaches. Florida State has always been one of my dream schools growing up and I'm one step closer to making that dream come true. After talks with my mom and dad about the recruiting process I have decided to commit to Florida State. 100% committed."
Parrish is a hard-hitting linebacker who exhibits strong instincts and takes smart angles on film. He's not afraid to come over the middle and punish opposing offensive players. As a junior, Parrish contributed on both sides of the ball for Atlantic High School. He recorded 153 tackles, ten tackles for loss, four sacks, and one forced fumble on defense while rushing 35 times for 139 yards with eight touchdowns on offense. For good measure, he also caught a touchdown pass.
The Florida native was most recently in Tallahassee in October to watch Florida State's game against Wake Forest. He was able to speak with Norvell and linebackers coach Randy Shannon, who is listed as his primary recruiter, during the visit. Parrish visited UNLV last month.
The Seminoles won out for his services over programs such as Auburn, Kentucky, USF, and FAU. Since the beginning of the new year, Parrish has earned offers from USF, UNLV, Indiana, Western Kentucky, FAMU, Bethune-Cookman, and Lafayette.
With the addition of Parrish, Florida State holds nine verbal commitments in its 2024 class which ranks No. 6 in the country per 247Sports. Parrish is the first linebacker to pledge to the Seminoles during the recruiting cycle. The program remains in the running for prospects such as Four-Star Edwin Spillman, Four-Star Payton Pierce, Three-Star Jeremiah Marcellin, and Three-Star Tristan Jernigan, among others.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker has yet to be ranked in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
