Florida State extends four-star OL Caleb Holmes a scholarship following Junior Day visit

Holmes was impressed by his meeting with Alex Atkins during the trip.

Florida State hosted multiple groups of prospects over the weekend for the last Junior Day of January. That included a contingent of recruits from Creekside High School out of Georgia, headed by four-star offensive lineman Caleb Holmes.

While speaking to reporters after the trip, Holmes admitted that he was expecting the Seminoles to extend him a scholarship offer in-person. Instead, he had to wait less than 24 hours for FSU to join his recruitment the following day.

"My recruitment as a junior is 100% open. I would enjoy it, it would be a blessing," Holmes said on getting the offer to NoleGameday's Dustin Lewis. "It would be something to look forward to because I definitely want to get back up here, learn more about the school, get closer to the coaches."

Throughout his time on campus, Holmes was able to attend a variety of meetings, try on uniforms, and go into Doak Campbell Stadium to watch a hype video.

"I came up here, I learned a lot about the school, met coach Atkins. I did my research because FSU has been one of the schools that I paid attention since I was younger. I used to play with them on NCAA," Holmes said with a laugh. "I've been up here for a camp before. I just enjoyed the day, I learned a lot about the school, this was an amazing visit."

The favorite part of the visit for Holmes was sitting down and learning more about offensive coordinator/offensive line coach, Alex Atkins. From the very beginning, Holmes was impressed by his personality and level of detail.

"Coach Atkins himself, amazing person. Really easy to like," Holmes said. "Even when I first walked up to him, I always introduce myself to be mannerable, he told me that he knew who I was and he had watched my film, he had been watching me for a long time. Just great personal experiences that were deeper than football."

"First of all, he’s one of the funniest coaches I’ve met in my life,” Holmes continued. “Funny guy, period. For him to be a coach and for him to have the reputation he has, he’s just a really likable human being. He’s someone I can see myself being connected to as a student, as a player, as a young man more than a football player.”

The Seminoles are recruiting Holmes as an interior offensive lineman - guard or center. He plans to return to Florida State in the spring. Outside of football, Holmes wrestles, throws the shotput in track, and is in the band.

The 6-foot-3, 285-pound offensive lineman is regarded as the No. 204 overall prospect, the No. 11 IOL, and the No. 28 recruit in the state of Georgia in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
