Four-star FSU WR commit TJ Abrams shows off his explosive speed with dazzling time at track meet
It's only been a couple of weeks since Florida State landed four-star wide receiver Tawaski 'TJ' Abrams following a two-day unofficial visit to Tallahassee. Abrams is bringing elite speed to the program on the gridiron and he recently got an opportunity to show off his wheels on the track during the Florida/Georgia Challenge in Gainesville.
Leading up to the event, Abrams trolled fans on social media by announcing that he was going to Gainesville over the weekend. At first, people were confused by his location during a recruiting dead period but then he clarified in a follow-up message that it was for a track meet.
Following an impressive junior season, Abrams began his first meet of the year by finishing first in his respective heat with a 6.98-second 60-meter dash in the prelims. The time pushed him into the finals where he recorded an even faster attempt of 6.89 seconds which ranked No. 5 overall at the event and No. 28 in the nation.
The Florida native appears to be taking his speed to a new level in 2023. His 6.89-second 60-meter dash is 0.13 seconds faster than the 7.01-second 60-meter dash he posted at the Ida Baker FD Indoor/Outdoor Invitational in February of last year. The meet he participated in on Saturday was held on an indoor track.
Abrams caught 35 passes for 429 yards and five touchdowns as a junior. He also rushed 21 times for 248 yards and two more scores. Abrams will continue to run track throughout the offseason - he posted a personal-best 10.62-second 100-meter dash last year.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound wide receiver is regarded as the No. 297 overall prospect, the No. 43 WR, and the No. 36 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
Florida State holds nine verbal commitments in the 2024 class which ranks No. 4 in the country.
