Florida State's coaching staff is becoming known for getting an early start on recruiting classes. After all, three members of the 2024 class have been committed for over a year in five-star running back Kam Davis, four-star quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, and four-star wide receiver Camdon Frier.

On Thursday afternoon, the Seminoles continued their trend of starting early by picking up a commitment from 2026 legacy wide receiver Devin Carter. The last name probably rings a bell as Carter is the son of FSU Legend Dexter Carter, who starred in Tallahassee from 1986-89.
A rising sophomore, the younger Carter chose Florida State after picking up offers from programs such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, and others. Evidenced by the interest some of the best programs in the country are displaying, he has an opportunity to grow into a top prospect.
Carter is coming off a freshman season where he played on varsity for Cedar Grove High School. The Saints finished 11-3 and were the state runner-up in Georgia's 3A classification. Carter primarily played wide receiver and caught 30 passes for 417 yards and six touchdowns. He also was invited to the FBU Freshman All-American Bowl.
The Seminoles offered Carter in July of 2022 following his performance at the Seminole Showcase. He was in Tallahassee twice during the fall before returning last weekend for the Spring Showcase.
The 6-foot, 165-pound wide receiver has yet to be ranked in the 2026 class according to 247Sports. Carter is the first commitment for the Seminoles in Tribe26.
An All-American on the football field and dual-sport athlete at Florida State, Dexter Carter rushed 327 times for 1,788 yards with 17 touchdowns on the ground during his college career. He was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the 1990 NFL Draft and ended up winning a Super Bowl during his seven years at the professional level.
