Seminoles offer emerging DT Nasir Johnson during visit for Junior Day

Another offer out to a big man who shouldn't possess the athleticism that he does for his size.

Florida State's coaching staff put out a ton of offers during the month of January. The Seminoles hosted three separate Junior Days over the last couple of weeks to further relationships and extend scholarships in person. Last weekend, multiple recruits were on campus including rising senior and emerging defensive tackle, Nasir Johnson.

Coming into the trip, Johnson only held interest from Kentucky and Georgia Southern. Shortly after he arrived at Florida State, he was personally offered by head coach Mike Norvell during a meeting in his office.

"Pretty good. Early in the morning, first thing in the morning," Johnson said to NoleGameday's Dustin Lewis. "Meet him in his office. Talked to him, get to know him more, he hit me with it."

To say the least, Johnson was excited about picking up the scholarship. He's been looking forward to his recruitment taking off but now it's actually beginning to happen for real.

"I felt good. How else could you feel about it? I was looking forward to it but it still kind of surprised me in a way," Johnson said. "Being young, you wouldn't think a lot of schools would show attention how they do. I feel like Florida State kind of would be a good place for me. The community and the environment it's around, it's a good community."

Standing at nearly 6-foot-5 and 301-pounds, Johnson can move well for his size. He's also extremely explosive - evidenced by his ability to do a backflip. The Seminoles like the physical tools that he presents.

"Very explosive guy, very athletic, move pretty good to be my size," Johnson said. "That's a lot of what they like [about me]."

Coming out of the trip, Florida State holds an early lead in Johnson's recruitment. He plans to return to campus for another visit when he can.

"I'd say top-three right now. I'd put Florida State first and the other two after that." Kentucky and Georgia Southern

The 6-foot-4 3/4, 301-pound defensive lineman has not yet been ranked in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
