Top-100 Defender Committed To Big Ten Program Cancels Official Visit To Florida State

One top recruit will no longer be making the trek to Tallahassee this weekend.

The final weekend of official visits prior to the Early Signing Period for prospects in the 2024 class has arrived. Florida State is set to host an array of talented recruits leading up to the dead period.

That number has decreased by one in the last 24 hours. Four-Star athlete Koi Perich has informed NoleGameday that he no longer intends to utilize his official visit to Tallahassee this weekend. The news comes on the heels of Perich spending a couple of days at Ohio State.

Projected to fit in as a linebacker or safety at the next level, Florida State's coaching staff was hoping to get an opportunity to extensively evaluate Perich in person. Instead, the focus will turn to the other seven official visitors expected on campus; five-star safety KJ Bolden, four-star edge Armondo Blount, four-star running back Kam Davis, four-star cornerback Jamari Howard, four-star wide receiver Lawayne McCoy, four-star edge Lugard Edokpayi, and four-star offensive lineman Manasse Itete.

Edokpayi is the only prospect who isn't committed to the Seminoles coming into the weekend. FSU is trying to hold off final pushes from different programs for Bolden and Blount.

As for Perich, Ohio State and Minnesota appear to be the two contenders for his signature with just over a week until pens go to paper. He's been committed to the Golden Gophers since April but it might be hard to say no to the Buckeyes. A multi-sport athlete, Perich plays on both sides of the ball and returns kicks at the prep level. He totaled 1,167 yards total yards and 20 touchdowns on offense while recording 74 tackles, four forced fumbles, three interceptions, and two sacks on defense along with five touchdowns in the return game as a junior.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety is regarded as the No. 85 overall prospect, the No. 8 S, and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Minnesota in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.

The Seminoles hold the No. 3 recruiting class in the country and have pledges from top-100 prospects such as five-star safety KJ Bolden, five-star cornerback Charles Lester III, four-star quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, four-star edge Armondo Blount, four-star tight end Landen Thomas, and four-star cornerback Jamari Howard.
