WATCH LIVE: Five-Star DL LJ McCray Set To Announce Decision Between UF, Auburn, and FSU

McCray has been committed to the Gators since late October, but a few teams have remained determined to land the talented prospect

The early signing period is upon us, and as talented high school players put the pen to paper making the first step of their collegiate career, the Seminoles remain a top choice in the eyes of five-star defensive line prospect LJ McCray.

Although he has been committed to the Seminoles' rival UF for nearly two months, McCray has taken unofficial visits to FSU twice since making his commitment public. In addition to FSU, McCray has visited Auburn and Miami once and hasn't visited UF since making his decision.

McCray received his offer from FSU in May of 2022 and the Seminoles remained consistent in his recruitment, even after he made his commitment to the Gators. With a total of eight visits to Tallahassee between camps and visits, as well as an in-home visit from the FSU coaching staff, the mutual interest is undeniable.

"It was just kind of about the same things we talked about before outside of just coming in and recruiting me for football," McCray said to NoleGameday previously. "They've been recruiting me for a long time so I kind of know those guys, but the message has definitely been consistent."

Although his commitment to the Gators seems to be firm, McCray's relationship with FSU head coach Mike Norvell and his staff remains a major factor in his recruiting process.

"Most of the time we talk, it's not really about football, it's not really about coming to Florida State," McCray said. "It's just regular conversations, he's been recruiting me for the past two years so it's just all about the things we talked about."

After committing to Florida over FSU, Georgia, Auburn, and Miami in October, the schools have continued to push for McCray in an effort to flip him on signing day.

The 6-foot-6, 260-pound defensive end is ranked as the 6th best prospect nationally according to 247Sports and is set to sign his national letter of intent on Wednesday, December 20.
