Transfer WR Malik Benson Prefers FSU Football's Locker Room Over Alabama's

Benson's transition from Alabama to Florida State has been made easier by his new teammates in garnet and gold.

The Florida State Seminoles are primed to reload after an ACC Championship season which produced multiple NFL prospects for the upcoming Draft. With stars like receivers Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson taking the next step in their career, there will be a change of guard at the wideout position heading into 2024.

Alabama transfer Malik Benson has shined throughout spring camp and is in a prime position to elevate himself on the depth chart alongside Destyn Hill, Hykeem Williams, Darion Williamson, and Kentron Poiter.

Benson recently sat down with The Battle's End to discuss his transition from a powerhouse like Alabama. He said that he prefers the locker room and culture at Florida State over the one he left in Tuscaloosa.

"I'm gonna be real. I like this locker room way better just because of the relationships. When I came in, everyone welcomed me with open arms, and it was just like really cool to see," Benson said about the Seminole locker room. "I'm transferring in. I don't really know anybody body, but my locker mates they're like, 'Bro, let's go get something to eat.' I don't know them. I'm not really trying to come out of my shell, but they forced me to, and I'm really thankful for that."

Many current and former players hace praised the culture that head coach Mike Norvell has built in Tallahassee which emphasizes the need to work, progress, and for the receivers, tight ends, and running backs, partake in additional roles and block for their teammates.

"I just really take pride in seeing my other teammates eat, so it's not like not one job is bigger than any other job," Benson continued. "For my teammates to do what they got to do, I got to block for them, especially like just running backs and like you said, like 'No block, no rock.'"

Benson's journey to suit up in garnet and gold was an interesting one. After spending two years at the junior college level, he transferred to Alabama and ultimately to Florida State. He said that even before playing for the Crimson Tide, Norvell knew that he would play at FSU one day.

"The funniest part about it, I was getting recruited in JUCO, and I remember talking to coach Norvell. He was always telling me like, 'You may not want to come to Florida State now, but you'll play for me one day,' and so all things come around. To see like, I'm actually playing for him, it was just crazy that it really happened."
