Dominic Lovett's Performance Perhaps Most Promising from G-Day for Georgia Football
Georgia needs WR Dominic Lovett to revert back to his Missouri version and performance. G-Day's scrimmage showed promising signs of that coming.
Georgia wide receiver Dominic Lovett is entering his second, and likely final, season with the Georgia Bulldogs. After two season with the Missouri Tigers, Lovett transferred to Georgia. The 2023 season was good for Lovett, he finished with 613 yards on 54 receptions a year ago. He was Georgia's second leading receiver, but it wasn't quite the season he had in 2022 with the Missouri Tigers.
With only just one fewer reception, Lovett had 233 yards fewer than his final year in Missouri. So, what was the difference? How do you go from having 15.1 yards per reception in 2022, to having 11.4 yards per reception in 2023? Well, the first part is general rapport with the quarterback. Lovett and QB Carson Beck are in their second season in the system and Saturday's G-Day performance showed there is tremendous promise for 2024.
Lovett and Beck connected on 7 of 10 targets for 104 yards and a touchdown. Lovett's ability to get open was elite on Saturday, however, perhaps the most impressive thing was Lovett's ability after the catch on display on Saturday. He made several defenders miss, he carried defenders on his back, and he finished with both yards after the catch and yards after contact. He played physically on Saturday in the run game as well, something Georgia will need him to continue to do in the fall.
If Georgia gets an 800 or 900 yard season out of Dominic Lovett... the hole left by Brock Bowers in the production of this Georgia offense will be largely filled.
