Broderick Jones Already Taking First Team Reps
After being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the No. 14 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, former Georgia offensive lineman Broderick Jones is already receiving first team reps at left tackle.
While Jones opened training camp primarily working with the second team offense, Jeff Hathhorn of 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh reported that by the end of the week the former Georgia standout began to receive reps with the first team.
Hathhorn's report indicated that veteran Dan Moore spent most of the first week working ahead of Jones as Pittsburgh's starting left tackle, but Jones got his first taste of first team action on Friday and was mainly matched up with veteran Markus Golden.
After practice on Friday, the rookie left tackle explained that he was prepared for his opportunity to work with the Steelers' first team offense.
"You never know with the coaches," Jones said. "They may just tell you to go in. You may be in bed up there and they will tell you to go in. You never know when they throw you in so you have to be prepared and have that open mind to go in and perform to the best of your ability."
While it is certainly still early in training camp and the first team reps for Jones have been limited, the fact that the rookie is already working in with the first team within the first week of camp indicates that he will be a strong contender to open the season as Pittsburgh's starting left tackle.
