2019 UGA Football: OLB Brenton Cox Dismissed from team, enter transfer portal
Former 5-star outside linebacker Brenton Cox has been dismissed from the Georgia football team and has entered the transfer portal.
Cox was involved in a disciplinary issue back in April when he was arrested for marijuana possession, but that wasn't the sole reasoning for Brenton Cox leaving the program.
We are being told here at The Bulldog Maven that perhaps Cox had become a bad apple within the locker room, and with the incredible depth at the outside linebacker position, there was no room for a player who wasn't fully bought in.
There have also been rumors swirling that Brenton Cox was possibly being asked to take on a different role as a defensive end with players like Jermaine Johnson and Nolan Smith now on campus at outside linebacker.
Sure, Georgia loses an incredible talent. A five-star who will surely be joining another power five program extremely soon, but this is a culture move for Kirby Smart. This was about making sure his guys are fully bought in.
As for Brenton's future, he will be on the field somewhere soon, and there's a reason to believe that this could have been a mutual decision because of the nature of the roster.
Cox played 277 snaps last season, accounting for 20 tackles. Making his first start against Texas in the Sugar Bowl.
