BREAKING: Caleb Downs Announces Transfer Portal Destination
Since the retirement of Alabama head coach Nick Saban, the long-time college football dynasty has undergone a lot of change. The program has begun configuring its staff under new head coach Kalen DeBoer, but perhaps the biggest impact has come in the form of the transfer portal. Defensive back Caleb Downs was arguably the biggest name to put his name into the portal, and he has announced his commitment to Ohio State.
The true freshman standout instantly became the hottest name in the market, for good reason, but the three teams that seemed to get their names into the mix were Georgia, Texas and Ohio State.
Before Downs entered the portal, the Bulldogs hired Alabama's defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson to be the team's co-defensive coordinator alongside Glenn Schumann. With that news, many figured Georgia would be the landing spot, but that didn't end up being the case.
As a true freshman for the Crimson Tide, Downs racked up 107 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions. He was also awarded the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award and received All-American recognition by multiple outlets.
This is a massive addition to a roster and Downs will make an immediate impact at his new school, the same way he did when he first arrived at Alabama.
