Brian Kelly Talks "Closing the Gap" Between Georgia and LSU

LSU head coach Brian Kelly laid out how he planned to close the gap between his program and the Georgia Bulldogs

Dawgs Daily is here in Nashville, Tennessee, for this week's slate of SEC Media Days. Coaches and players from all 14 teams in the conference will be taking the podium to speak about the upcoming season and to provide a glimpse of what this year has in store for their program prior to the 2023 college football season being kicked off.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly was the first coach to speak at the podium. When taking questions from the media, Kelly was asked about closing the gap between his program and the Georgia Bulldogs. Kelly said that "on-field" play would be the biggest indicator and stated that recruiting would be the most important component in doing so.

"I know based upon how we've recruited and how we continue to recruit. We will have a roster to compete against Georgia. Is that now? No, but if we continue to recruit like we have we will."

The gap between the two programs was exemplified during the 2022 SEC Championship when the Georgia Bulldogs dismantled LSU by a score of 50-30. Kelly said that he was looking forward to facing the Bulldogs again, but mentioned that he and his team would be prioritizing winning the Western division in order to do so.

In his first season with the Tigers, Kelly helped LSU ink the fifth-ranked recruiting class for the 2023 season. The Tigers 2024 recruiting class currently has 18 commits and is ranked 13th in the nation.
