Former Bulldog Alec Ogletree Announces Retirement
While many former Bulldogs are just now starting their young NFL careers, others are coming to an end. This time it's the latter as linebacker Alec Ogletree has announced his retirement from the professional football league after eight seasons, per his Instagram.
Ogletree was originally drafted in 2013 by the St Louis Rams, who are now located in Los Angeles, in the first round with the 30th overall pick. The former Bulldog would spend five seasons with the Rams before going to the New York Giants for two seasons, the New York Jets after that, and his final stop was with the Chicago Bears in 2021.
During his time in the NFL, Ogletree earned All-Rookie team honors and made the second All-Pro team in 2016. Throughout his career, Ogletree racked up 766 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 13 forced fumbles, and 12 interceptions. A very respectable career for the former Dawg.
Prior to entering the NFL, he played for three years at the University of Georgia. He accumulated 197 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, six sacks, and an interception as a collegiate athlete. One of Ogletree's most memorable moments as a Bulldog came during the 2012 SEC championship game against Alabama as he returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown to make it a two-score lead for the Bulldogs in the 3rd quarter.
Georgia has pumped an impeccable amount of linebacker talent into the professional football league, and Ogletree is just one of many examples. A great career as a Bulldog and an admirable career as a professional.
