Prior to the start of Georgia’s spring practice in March, it was announced that second-year defensive tackle Shone Washington was no longer with the team. On April 17, two days after Georgia’s G-Day spring game, Washington officially entered the NCAA transfer portal during the college football spring transfer portal window. After taking visits to a number of different schools, the former Georgia defensive tackle announced on social media on Wednesday that he will be transferring to East Mississippi Community College - a five-time NJCAA National Champion - for the 2023 college football season.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive tackle came to Georgia as a three-star prospect out of New Orleans, Louisiana where he played at Warren Easton High School. Ranked as the No.592 prospect and No.84 defensive tackle in the 2022 class, Washington originally committed to LSU prior to his junior year of high school football before eventually decommitting from the Tigers in January, 2021. The New Orleans native ultimately committed to Georgia in November, 2021 over offers from Florida, Tennessee, Penn State, and Alabama among others. Washington enrolled early at Georgia and participated in the Bulldogs' 2022 spring drills.

As a freshman at Georgia in 2022, Washington was unable to crack the Bulldogs’ deep defensive tackle rotation that featured a future top-10 NFL draft pick in Jalen Carter. His lone appearance of the season came in Georgia’s home-opener against Samford, totaling one solo tackle against Head Coach Chris Hatcher’s Bulldogs. After redshirting in 2022, Washington enrolls at East Mississippi with four seasons of collegiate eligibility remaining.
