Former Georgia Bulldog AJ Green Announces Retirement

Former Georgia legend and NFL star wide receiver AJ Green announces retirement from football.

A former Georgia legend and veteran NFL star AJ Green has announced his retirement from football. Green spent 12 seasons as a professional football player and pieced together a historical career at both the collegiate and professional levels.

During his time at Georgia, Green racked up 2,619 receiving yards and caught 23 touchdown passes. He currently has the fourth-most receptions in program history, the third-most receiving yards and the second-most touchdown receptions only behind Terrence Edwards. He was named a first-team All-American twice in his career and was SEC freshman of the year in 2008.

Green would then go on to be selected in the first round with the fourth overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He still holds the record for the highest-drafted wide receiver to ever come out of Georgia.

He would spend the majority of his career as a Bengal and then had a late stint with the Arizona Cardinals. As a professional, Green was a 7x Pro Bowler and was second-team All-Pro twice in back-to-back years. He will finish his NFL career with 727 receptions, 10,514 yards and 70 touchdowns.

Early into his professional career, Green was considered one of the best wide receivers in the league and remained in that conversation for quite some time. Green would then battle injuries as his career progressed and as he got older, it hindered his performance on the field, but at the peak of his game, Green was one of the best in the business.

As he closes the final chapter of his football career, Green will go down as one of the greatest to ever do it at the University of Georgia and as a well-respected player at the NFL level as well.
