GAMEDAY: Everything you need to know about Freshman QB, Brian Maurer
After sixteen consecutive starts for Jarrett Guarantano, the true freshman Brian Maurer. Maurer was the 19th ranked pro-style quarterback in last year's high school class out of Ocala, Florida.
Maurer threw for over 7500 yards at West Port high school in three years as a starter, with 64 TD's and 35 INT's.
The Tennessee faithful got their first look at the freshman against Chattanooga and in limited snaps, he capped off a scoring drive with his legs.
A much larger sample size in last week's 34 to 3 loss to Florida, Maurer was 4 of 11 for 44 yards and an interception.
But, Cory Sanning from SI's Vol Maven tells me that "for a true freshman, he's got poise, but he's going to have his fair share of struggles."
It's safe to say that what we know about Maurer as of now, through just 13 attempts in a couple of blowouts, is that he's a young man that believes he can make every throw, and with 35 INT's in high school, maybe to a fault.
Jeremy Pruitt did say that Jarrett Guarantano will still play despite Maurer getting the start.
Here's a look at Maurer:
