Georgia Baseball: Athens Regional Day 1 Preview
The Georgia Bulldogs were lucky enough to land home-field advantage for the regional round of the NCAA Tournament. The Athens Regional will host Georgia, Mercer, Florida State, and Florida Atlantic. The Bulldogs will get Mercer first, and the next game will be decided upon Friday's results.
#1 Georgia (44-15) vs. #4 Mercer (35-27)
Georgia looks to bounce back after losing to Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament in this matchup against the in-state foe, Mercer. Mercer comes into the tournament hot off of a Southern Conference championship, which gave them an automatic bid into the tournament.
The two teams have not faced off since 2017. Mercer was able to beat Georgia twice that year.
The Georgia Bulldogs will start one of their most elite and accountable pitchers in Tony Locey. Locey has gone 10-2 on the year, with an ERA of 2.68.
The Mercer Bears have announced they'll go with Tanner Hall. Hall has also been one of the Bears' more reliable pitchers. He has eight wins on the year and has posted an ERA of 4.67.
The two teams will take the field on Friday at 7 p.m. on SEC Network.
