Georgia Baseball To Honor the Late Steve Webber With Helmet Sticker

Steve Webber, winner of 500 games as Georgia Baseball's head coach, passed away in November. Georgia will wear helmet stickers to honor him this season.

Three former Georgia Bulldogs will be inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame on February 25th in Macon: Former football head coach Mark Richt, former tennis star Al Parker, and former baseball head coach Steve Webber.

Webber, who is Georgia's winningest baseball coach with 500 victories, passed away in November of 2022 after a lengthy illness. Georgia baseball will wear a helmet sticker this season to honor Webber, per Georgia head coach Scott Stricklin

"He fought [his illness] hard for several years, and just sorry to see him go. He was a big part of our program. We’ll be wearing a helmet sticker this year, honoring him. He meant a lot to this program, to this university, and he was certainly a good friend of mine."

In 1990, Steve Webber led Georgia to a College World Series title, the first ever for an SEC program. He was named the National Coach of the Year that same year. Prior to that, he led Georgia to an SEC title in 1987, earning SEC Coach of the Year honors.

"I’ve known Coach Webber for a long time, and he was always very gracious when I was a young coach coming up." said Stricklin.

“He was always very gracious to me when he was a coach here at Georgia, and then when he became a scout with the Yankees. A good man, a good friend, a really tight family."

We'll get out first look at the emblem and the 2023 Georgia Baseball team when the Bulldogs play host to Jacksonville State on February 17th at Foley Field.
