USF Basketball Transfer Russel Tchewa Commits to Georgia
While the Georgia football program just wrapped a successful weekend at the NFL draft, Georgia basketball head coach Mike White has been getting busy on the recruiting trail trying to get his roster ready for the 2023 season. The Bulldogs have gained commitments from several players over the last month, and they have just gained another. USF basketball transfer Russel Tchewa has announced his commitment to the Bulldogs.
Tchewa is literally and figuratively a massive pickup for the Bulldogs. He stands at 7-foot and weighs 280 pounds. Last season for the Bulls, Tchewa averaged 11.1 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game. He also shot a little over 60 percent from the field. Tchewa is a big physical body that will help anchor the Bulldogs down low on both offense and defense which is something Georgia has been needing for the past few seasons.
Tchewa will join fellow transfers RJ Melendez and Jalen Deloach on Georgia's roster this year. Melendez transferred in from Illinois this offseason and Deloach comes from VCU. Both Deloach and Melendez also carry tremendous size and will be big-time contributors for the Bulldogs as soon as they arrive on campus.
Georgia also recently picked up a commitment from four-star guard Silas Demary Jr. He is from Charlotte, North Carolina, and was at one point committed to play basketball for the USC Trojans. He even signed his national letter of intent to play there. After decommitting earlier this month and getting out of LOI though, Demary Jr, now finds himself joining coach White and the Bulldogs. Demary Jr. is rated as a top 100 player in the nation and top 15 at his position.
In 30 games during his high school senior season, Demary Jr. averaged 13.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists. For a guard, he carries a great frame as he stands at 6-4 and 180 pounds according to his recruiting profile.
White and his staff have managed is reel in some solid players this offseason and have the hoop Dawgs in good shape to make some major improvements compared to how they finished this past season. White has only been at Georgia for one full season, but he is quickly getting things rolling for his program.
