POSTGAME: Georgia Bulldogs Beat Florida in Rivalry Game
The Georgia Bulldogs won their third straight contest over the Florida Gators with a 24-17 win in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday.
For the first time in his UGA career, quarterback Jake Fromm attempted 30-plus passes in a victory. He also came up big in the game’s biggest moment. On third-and-7 with Georgia needing just one more first down to win the game, he completed a 22-yard dart to Eli Wolf to secure the win.
Lawrence Cager had a huge day, recording seven receptions for 132 and one score, all setting career highs for the grad transfer from Miami.
After the game, Kirby Smart said Cager played like a “Warrior," and he had no doubt that Cager would play today, but was concerned about the conditioning level of Cager coming into the game.
The Bulldogs put up 398 total yards of offense, with just 2 punts in the game and protected the football throughout the contest. But most importantly, they converted 12 of 18 third downs. Georgia’s offensive line did not give up a sack against the SEC sack leading Gators
Florida was extremely adamant about loading the box and stopping the run, and OC James Coley and QB Jake Fromm gashed the Gators multiple times in play-action
Defensively, the Bulldogs didn’t allow a 3rd down conversation until midway through the 4th quarter. And until the last offensive series for Florida, they had negative yards rushing. They finished the contest with just 21 yards on the ground.
The Dawgs sacked Trask multiple times including a nineteen-yard sack in the third quarter by Jordan Davis, in his first game back since the Tennessee contest.
As Kirby Smart said in his postgame press conference, the Bulldogs played a very physical brand of football today. “Our kids were resilient today.”
