Kirby Smart Reaches NFL Draft Milestone

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has reached an NFL draft milestone in his seventh year as a head coach.

Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart has long been considered one of the top coaches in college football, but he has really asserted himself into the conversation for being considered the best in the business over the past couple of years. In just the last two years, Georgia has claimed two national titles, an SEC Championship, and set an NFL draft record last year by having 15 players taken in the draft. Georgia won't be setting a new draft record this year, but Smart is still reaching major goals at a rapid pace.

Coach Smart has just had his 50th player taken in the NFL draft since taking over at Georgia. He has reached that mark in just seven years as head coach. For context, it took Nick Saban nine years to reach the 50 mark at Alabama and 10 years for Dabo Swinney at Clemson. Now while every situation is different for every head coach when they take over a program, Smart reaching that milestone as quickly as he has as a first-time head coach is impressive. There is no denying that.

Georgia has annually recruited at one of the highest levels in the sport thanks to Smart and his coaching staff. The Bulldogs are consistently reeling in some of the nation's best prospects at every position, and it has translated to major success on the football field. Now, specifically over the last few years, it has started to produce results on draft night, and it has garnered even more national attention for the Bulldogs.

Many pundits in the media expected Georgia to take a step back during 2022 after losing 15 players to the draft the year prior, but after claiming yet another national title and now another successful weekend at the NFL draft, it doesn't look like Smart and the Bulldogs will be slowing down any time soon.
