Friday Night Lights Preview: Future Dawgs On The Loose

High school football programs now enter the middle of their seasons and begin to face region competition, which is your ticket into the state playoffs for schools in Georgia. Which future Georgia Bulldogs will be playing?

Even though the college football season has just begun, and the NFL season starts this weekend, high school football is already in mid-season form as teams enter the region competition in week four. Many future Dawgs will be let loose on the field under the Friday Night Lights. Let's preview who will be in action this weekend.

IMG Academy will head to Indiana to take on Ben Davis High School, a matchup between two undefeated powerhouses. In Ben Davis's last game, they defeated region opponent Pike High School, 62-0, led by 3-star QB and Maryland commit Thomas Gotkowski. Ellis Robinson IV will be assigned this game to shut down Gotkowski and his offense in the passing game. Robinson has been up to the task this season but will be tested against a good quarterback in this game.

Daniel Calhoun and Walton play at Pope High School, a 6-A classified program that has started their season with a 0-2 record. Pope played a tight game against a powerhouse in Kell High School, where Pope lost 28-21. Pope wants to gain momentum before they start region play, and what better way to get momentum than defeating a 2-0 powerhouse in Calhoun's Walton High School.

2024 Georgia Bulldogs commit Daniel Calhoun locked in during pregame at the Corky Kell Classic on Aug. 19, 2023. He and Walton High School defeated Grayson High School with a final score of 49-27. (Brooks Austin / Dawgs Daily).

Dwight Phillips Jr. and Pebblebrook play at Rome, whom Sacovie White and Cass lost to earlier in the year, 35-0. Although Rome defeated a good Cass team last week, they lost at home to Carrolton by a score of 34-13. Pebblebrook is also a 2-1 football program and is looking to get a big statement win before moving into their region schedules. 3-star DL Chuckwunedu Okeke and Phillips will look to make a difference against Rome's 3-star DL Justin Terrell and 3-star safety Joe Wilkinson.

Dawgs Daily's Brooks Austin will be at Colquitt County to watch Ny Carr and company host Lee County. Carr is one of Colquitt County's top receiving targets, which Lee County's top DB will cover in 3-star safety Devin Collier. In Lee County's first three games, they have outscored opponents 136-45, while Colquitt comes into the game outscoring opponents 135-46. It will be a tight matchup between two dominant programs, and The Film Guy Network will have all the mic 'd-up highlights for you.

Cardinal Gibbons and  Colton Heinrich are traveling to Dillard High School, where some of South Florida's best-hidden talent will be displayed. Both teams are coming into the game with a 1-1 record and hold two of Florida's top 200 players according to 247Sports composite rankings. The players spread throughout Broward and Dade County in South Florida have talent for all levels of college football and will be good tests for Heinrich and Cardinal Gibbons before they face American Heritage in region play.

Plenty of talent from a future Georgia Bulldog will be displayed every Friday night. Although the current 2024 class stands at 26 commits already and is loaded with talent from head to toe, Kirby Smart and his staff want to land a few more commits before officially putting a close to a recruiting class that could arguably go down as the best class ever.
