What Georgia Learned From South Carolina Win

What Georgia learned about themselves during their 24-14 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks.

It wasn't the prettiest of wins from Georgia against South Carolina, but it was a win nonetheless. The Bulldogs went into the locker room down 14-3 at halftime, and they came out in the second half swinging, and once they gained the lead, they never looked back.

Head coach Kirby Smart and his program picked up their 20th straight win, and they managed to do it in a comeback fashion. Georgia's defense held strong throughout the game, and the offense found a rhythm in the second half to help capture the win. And much of that credit goes to quarterback Carson Beck, who finished the day with a 77 completion rate, 269 yards and zero turnovers.

Another major contributor today was running back Daijun Edwards. Georgia's running back room has been trying to find a form of identity in the first two weeks while trying to get guys healthy, and Edwards provided a spark on Saturday. He missed the first two weeks due to injury, and his return was very much noticed. He finished the day with 20 carries and 118 yards with a touchdown. South Carolina's defense had no answer for him, and Georgia's run game may have finally found something on Saturday.

Georgia also needed a spark in the receiving game today, and several players helped make that happen. Rara Thomas made a huge reception out of the half to immediately put Georgia in business. Brock Bowers, Dominic Lovett, and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint also stepped up as they led the team in receiving, with all three of them going over 50 yards.

On the defensive side, they learned that their pass rush can get home when they need them and that the secondary can step up in big moments. Georgia's defense finished the day with seven tackles for loss and three sacks as they pressured Rattler for the entire football game. The Bulldogs secondary also forced two turnovers later in the game as Dan Jackson and Tykee Smith had interceptions.

As mentioned before, it was the prettiest of wins, but Georgia added another number to the win column and started their conference schedule with a major win to help keep the momentum rolling for them this season.
