Georgia's Biggest Successes Heading Into the Bye Week
The bye week is upon us. Georgia enters its first break of the year ranked No. 1 in both polls, 7-0 overall and 4-0 against SEC rivals.
While the Bulldog's prime objectives are still ahead of them, they've already accomplished a lot through the first seven weeks of the season:
Extending Winning Streaks
Georgia's undefeated record is just a slice of much larger streaks the Bulldogs have going on. They haven't suffered a loss since the 2021 SEC Championship Game, meaning they've won 24 consecutive games overall; 34 straight regular season games; 23 straight home games; and 14 straight SEC games. Plus, Georgia has spent 18 weeks as the No. 1 team in the AP Poll.
The 24-game winning streak is by far the longest in school history, and it is currently the fourth longest in SEC history. Georgia's 18 straight weeks as AP No. 1 is the best streak an SEC team has ever experienced, and is tied for third best nationally with Southern California's run in 1972-73.
The Bulldogs are the class of college football at the moment. The ongoing winning streaks include wins over Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, Clemson and Oregon; as well as bitter rivals Florida, Tennessee, Auburn and Georgia Tech.
Clean Football
In Georgia's toughest game to date; a trip to Auburn with a first-year starter at quarterback making his first SEC road game start, the Bulldog offense didn't commit a single procedural penalty or delay of game. No false starts, no too many men in the backfield, not one.
That's an extraordinary accomplishment, but it wouldn't have happened if Georgia wasn't already playing tidy football.
The Bulldogs have committed just 32 penalties this season, good enough for No. 3 in the SEC. However, both teams ahead of Georgia (Auburn and Mississippi State) have only played six games. Therefore, Georgia's 4.5 penalties per game lead all SEC programs. The Bulldogs' 42.14 penalty yards per game is also second-best in the conference.
Victory in the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry
Another winning streak that continued was Georgia's seven-game streak over Auburn. The Tigers haven't defeated the Bulldogs since the 2017 regular season. Since upsetting Auburn in that year's SEC Championship game, the rivalry has been all Georgia.
Throw in 16 wins over the last 18 encounters and Georgia has completely taken over what was once one of the closest rivalries in the sport. Before 2006, Auburn led the all-time series 53-48-8. At the time, Georgia oddly led the cumulative all-time score of the rivalry. After 17 years of domination, the "Deep South's Oldest Rivalry" is firmly in Georgia's favor 64-56-8.
