College football spring scrimmage games always come with a lot of anticipation. Everyone is eager to get a look at the new freshman, to see how players are progressing, and to get their first look at how their team is looking heading into the new season. Spring scrimmages also bring out some new names that fans may have forgotten about or really never knew from the start, and for Georgia, that surprise came from wide receiver Mekhi Mews.

Mews committed to Georgia back in January of 2021 as a preferred walk-on. Mews was flooded with mid-major offers, but after a big senior season opted to wait until the traditional national signing day before pledging his services to a school. He had 1,522 total yards for his high school in his final year and found the end zone 11 times. He showcased his blazing speed during today's scrimmage and displayed his explosive potential in Georgia's offense.

The former Central Gwinnett High School standout was making plays all over the field today. Whether it was finding a crease in the return game to make a big play or being targeted for a big play in the passing game, Mews was doing it all. He had seen limited action over the past couple of seasons for Georgia in a reserve role, but it wasn't until the scrimmage today that he really made a name for himself.

Georgia has a knack for finding under-the-radar talent it seems every single year. Stetson Bennett, Dan Jackson, and Ladd McConkey are some of the more recent examples, and Mews looks to be a player that very well could be added to that list if today was any indicator of what is in store for him in the near future.

The Bulldogs were already considerably deep at wide receiver prior to today's spring scrimmage, and Mews' standout performance was a testimony to just how deep that roster runs.
