PHOTOS: Georgia Rushes to Beat Georgia Tech
The No. 1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs finished their 2023 regular season campaign on Saturday night in Atlanta, Georgia. For the 12th straight time inside of Bobby Dodd Stadium, the Georgia Bulldogs left the venue with a victory.
Here are the sights and. the sounds from the matchup for the Governor's Cup.
First Quarter:
The Bulldogs were again forced to play from behind after a Daijun Edwards fumble led to an eventual Haynes King rushing touchdown to put the Jackets up 7-0. The Bulldogs responded by marching down the field for a touchdown to tie the game up 7-7. The Jackets would then march down the field, only to be held to a field goal to take the lead 10-7.
Second Quarter:
Georgia opened up the second quarter with a strong drive to take the lead and would then hold the Jackets to a field goal to make the score 14-13. Another red zone score, this time from running back Daijun Edwards would extend the Dawgs' lead 21-13 with just a minute left in the quarter. Tech would utilize that minute to march down the field for a last-second field goal attempt that would hook left.
Third Quarter:
Both teams traded offensive stops to open the second half, as neither offense seemed to be able to get much going. The Bulldogs would finally break through after a 39-yard field goal extended their lead to 24-13. A fourth down stop would give Georgia the ball back, where they would extend their lead to 18 thanks to a Kendall Milton touchdown.
Fourth Quarter:
The Jackets were the first to get on the board in the fourth quarter following a 40-yard field goal by kicker Aidan Burr to make the game 31-16. A tipped pass in the end zone would lead to Beck's first interception of the ball game. However, after Georgia Tech would go on to score to bring the game within eight, the Bulldogs would milk the clock and secure the final win of the regular season.
The Bulldogs will travel to Atlanta once again next week to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC championship. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since the 2022 national championship.
