Gauging Impact of Zamir White's Return
It looks like running back Zamir White has some unfinished business to attend to.
White announced his intent to return for his redshirt junior season on Wednesday. White was Georgia's leading rusher in 2020, racking up 779 yards with 11 touchdowns.
While Georgia already had more than enough talent in its running back stable without White, his return makes the group perhaps the deepest in school history. The Bulldogs will have six solid running backs to choose from in 2016 with White's return and the addition of freshman Lovasea Carroll.
James Cook's return announcement last week was a big deal because of the senior leadership he can provide. White doubles that leadership. He's is an easy guy for younger players to look up to. White has overcome two ACL tears, he's maintained a humble persona and he's one of the hardest workers on the team.
White adds more than just leadership; he adds continuity. With White coming back, Georgia returns all but one skill player that had a large role on the offense in 2020. The Bulldogs' top five rushers are back in 2021, as are the top four receivers and tight ends.
Late bloomers like quarterback JT Daniels and receiver Arian Smith are also a part of next year's offense. Receivers Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint and Dominick Blaylock are returning from injury.
Continuity is huge for an offense that hasn't had any since 2017 when Nick Chubb and Sony Michel elected to return for their senior years. It's the one trait that's held Georgia's offense back the most from the exodus of receivers in 2019 to Jake Fromm's departure and Jamie Newman's subsequent opt-out this past season.
