Stetson Bennett Continues to Impress at Rams Camp
Heading into the NFL Draft this past April, many considered Georgia's two-time national champion quarterback unworthy of a draft pick. Stetson Bennett was used to being doubted, though, as he was throughout a healthy portion of his career at Georgia. But, as he usually did, Bennett silenced the doubters when he heard the Los Angeles Rams pick his name in the draft's fourth round.Â
The Rams Rookie Mini Camp started, and Bennett impressed many within the organization, and now that the official training camp has begun, Bennett continues to impress. The Rams Twitter posted their "Shot of the Day" from practice on July 27th, and it involved Stetson Bennett rolling out and connecting with Demarcus Robinson, who made an excellent catch on the play.
Bennett will likely be the backup to former UGA quarterback and No. 1 overall pick Matthew Stafford. Still, Stafford recognizes Bennett's ability on the field, stating previously, "He's got great athleticism, throws the ball well, and does a lot of things really well." Rams HC Sean McVay wanted Bennett to prove himself and push him to earn the backup role to Stafford, which Kirby Smart also did while Bennett was at Georgia.Â
"I've been really pleased with him," McVay's statement concerning Bennett. "The one thing that stands out is when the ball is in Stetson's hands, the game makes sense to him - he's fun to be around."Â
The Los Angeles Rams and Stetson Bennett will begin their preseason action on August 12th against the Los Angeles Chargers, where Bennett will likely get his first experience against an opposing NFL defense.Â
