Georgia Baseball: Athens Regional Day 2 Preview
The Georgia Bulldogs routed Mercer 13-3 on Friday night, and this got ugly from the start. The Dawgs got off to a hot start by posting eight runs in the first inning. The hot bats continued in the third inning, where Aaron Schunk hit his second home run of the game. Starting pitcher, Tony Locey, pitched five scoreless innings, and was then relieved by Logan Moody in the 6th inning.
Saturday will start the 2nd round of the Athens Regional.
Game 3: #2 Florida Atlantic vs #4 Mercer: 1 p.m. EST
The winner of this game will face the loser of the Georgia-Florida State game. The loser will be eliminated from the tournament.
Game 4: #1 Georgia vs #3 Florida State: 7 p.m. EST
The Dawgs will get a crack at Florida State on Saturday with a spot in the regional championship on the line.
It is believed that Georgia's ace pitcher, Emerson Hancock, will take the mound for the Dawgs on Saturday night. The sophomore pitcher comes into the game 8-2 on thirteen starts. Hancock, who certainly has MLB potential written all over him, currently sits at an ERA of 1.56.
If Emerson Hancock is able to control this game from the get-go, Georgia will have an excellent chance to win, and move on to the regional championship.
If not, they'll have to face the winner of Florida Atlantic and Mercer on Sunday.
