UGA vs Notre Dame: The Bulldogs out talent the Irish by a wide margin.
As if not noticing the talent in our WR room wasn't enough, now Notre Dame has some blueprint to beat our Dawgs in Athens this Saturday night. Wrong and wrong. I'm spotting a trend.
The powers that be in South Bend remember looking down at a sea of red filling their stadium when we visited them in 2017. They dream of a reversal of roles when they arrive in Athens.
That my friends will not happen. So we can scratch that off of the list.
Some will lead you to believe that Brian Kelly having his team scrimmage live during their bye week to prepare for us will give him super sorcerer's upper hand. It won't. In fact, all it tells me is he's paying attention.
This game will come down to Jimmy's and Joe's not X's and O's. We bring a 3-year starter at QB and arguably the deepest and most talented RB and O-line rooms in the entire country. They bring a defense that has given up over 450 yards rushing in 2 games against teams outside of the top 25. They just don't field the same level of talent as the Georgia Bulldogs.
How has Kirby created such a separation since the last matchup in 2017?
As we've discussed before this is done on the recruiting trail. Recruiting classes are measured by an accumulated point total given to each recruit. Based on the 24/7 sports composite in 2016 UGA had a point total of 281 finishing 6th in the nation in overall recruiting. Landing 14 four and five-star recruits. Notre Dame, on the other hand, finished with a total of 249 landing zero five stars and 11 of the four-star variety finishing 15th overall.
In 2017 the gap starts to widen. UGA fishes 3rd overall at an outstanding 301 point total landing 20 total 4 and 5-stars. Notre Dame moves up in the rankings finishing 10th with 251 points but again lands zero 5 stars and only 10 4-star recruits.
It continues to trend in opposite directions. 2018 would bring UGA the number 1 ranked recruiting class with a whopping 323 total points, 7 5-stars, and 15 4-star future Dawgs. Notre Dame basically holds serve finishing 10th again with 268 points zero 5-star and 14 4-stars.
2019 the machine continues to roll. Kirby reels in the number 2 class overall with 309 total points, 5 5-star recruits and 15 4-stars while Brian Kelly and company fall further behind. Notre Dame finishes ranked 16th with 258 points and once again not a single 5-star recruit.
The level of talent that takes the field this Saturday on Dooley field will not be equal. While anything can happen when two teams collide I can't find a single reason or single person that can provide a logical scenario that leads to anything but a victory for the Mean Machine in Red and Black.
See you guys in Athens and as always Go Dawgs!
