Georgia Football Freshman WR George Pickens Could Make an Immediate Impact
George Pickens committed to Auburn in July of 2017 as a Sophomore going into his Junior year of high school. On February 6th, national signing day, Pickens sent his fax in. To Kirby Smart in Athens, not Malzahn in Auburn.
It was a big recruiting win for Smart and his staff, but more importantly, it's an incredible addition to an unproven wide receiver group. A group that's leading returning receiver is Jeremiah Holloman followed by D'andre Swift
In fact, it's the exact reason Pickens decided to flip his commitment. He saw the like of Mecole Hardman, Riley Ridley, and Isaac Nauta depart for the NFL and recognized an opportunity to catch passes from Jake Fromm early and often in Athens.
There's no doubt he and fellow freshman Dominick Blaylock will need to make an early impact on the UGA offense. That will be offensive coordinator James Coley's responsibility.
Kirby Smart had comments on whether or not Pickens makes an immediate impact this fall, “We know George is going to fit what we did,” Smart said. “He really was intrigued by the fact that we had the guys come out early, and he knew that he fit in our style system. And we think he’s a talented player that we’re looking forward to working with.”
