Williams Nwaneri is the no. 1 rated DL in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports composite rankings, and he makes his college football decision this afternoon. The 6' 5" 250-pound defensive end is down to five schools, Georgia, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Tennessee, so where will he commit?

Nwaneri was in Athens for a loaded visit back at the beginning of June that Included Dylan Raiola and many more. Kirby Smart and his staff have held a solid position since that visit but were still battling it out with Oklahoma and Missouri, in particular. Nwaneri was at Missouri the weekend before going to Athens, then visited Oklahoma the weekend after Georgia.

Eli Drinkwitz found a gem in defensive coordinator Blake Baker, who bolstered the Tigers' defense in the 2022 season, and received a contract extension just two years after joining the team. The Tigers landed promising WR Dominic Lovett in the 2021 class and Luther Burden in 2022, showing their ability to land top talent in their home territory. NIL may be playing a factor in this recruitment, but turning around your home state's team may mean more.

Oklahoma and Brent Venables have been making some splashes on the recruiting trail recently and have been especially loading up on the defensive side of the ball, preparing to enter the SEC in 2024. Landing a player with the caliber as Nwaneri's would be a huge get to make their way into the SEC. If the former Dabo Sweeney DC can beat out the former Nick Saban DC on the recruiting trail, it would mean big things for the Sooners following that news.

The five-star announced that he was down to his final five schools at the beginning of the month and ultimately will choose the best decision for his future. A bolster to the Dawgs defensive line will help them in the '24 class, but the Tigers and Drinkwitz may emerge victorious in this recruiting battle.

Nwaneri commits Monday, August 14th and it looks like the Tigers could be the team to beat.
