2019 UGA Freshman Faces: Travon Walker
The UGA defense will need to see an upgrade in defensive line play, which makes the arrival of this young man from Thomaston, Georgia, that much more impactful.
In fact, last season The University of Georgia's football team ranked 103rd in the country in Team Sacks at just 24, and 114th in the country in Tackles for Loss. Obviously those are the two categories that are most impacted by defensive line play. So clearly, it was a point of concern for this football team headed into this upcoming season.
Getting a five-star talent like Walker is always a breath of fresh air for your program, but UGA needs an impact from this young man more than any other position in my opinion. With Tyler Clark being the only dynamic returner in this lackluster bunch of interior defensive lineman from last season, this staff will be leaning on the Freshman.
The first thing Walker will need to do is get to know Strength & Conditioning coach, Scott Sinclair, in hopes of adding ten to fifteen pounds onto his 6'5 frame. He's on campus as we speak, and it's safe to assume coach has him eating a lot of PB&J's and drinking a considerable amount of whole milk. You know, the good stuff.
As for his on the field ability, assuming he puts on the necessary weight to hold up the SEC on early downs, he should have no problems getting accustomed to the level of competition. In camps like The Open, he constantly dominated top competition in one on one pass rushing opportunities, something I think he will continue to do in college.
