Georgia Trending for Top-Ranked QB Dylan Raiola
After being the first college program to officially offer him a scholarship, Georgia has been a consistent contender in the recruitment of Phoenix (Ariz.) Pinnacle five-star quarterback prospect Dylan Raiola. Lately, however, Georgia has been more than a mere contender as recent developments have the Bulldogs trending for the top-ranked prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
Since his decision to de-commit from Ohio State in December, the momentum in Raiola’s recruitment has swung back and forth with Georgia, USC, and Nebraska alternately taking turns as the presumed favorite to land the services of the 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback prospect. However, following a spring unofficial visit to Athens - Raiola’s sixth cross-country visit to Georgia - the weekend of March 17-19, Georgia appears to have recaptured the momentum in Raiola’s recruitment. In an interview with Dawg Nation following the visit to Athens, Raiola’s father detailed the family’s thoughts on Georgia.
“There is always a good vibe in that building and it is very business-like. Kirby says when you walk in that building everything is geared towards making you a better man and winning."
Raiola followed up the Georgia visit with a visit to Nebraska where his father earned All-American honors and his uncle currently serves as the offensive line coach. The Cornhuskers undoubtedly put their best foot forward, but Chad Simmons - Director of Recruiting for On3 - reported earlier this week that Raiola has canceled his scheduled return visit to Nebraska for the Huskers’ spring game, which has naturally led to speculation that Nebraska’s position in Raiola’s commitment is beginning to slip.
One day after Simmons’ broke the news that Raiola had canceled his scheduled visit to Nebraska to take in the program’s spring game, Steve Wiltfong - Director of Recruiting for 247 Sports - moved his Crystal Ball prediction back to Georgia. Following Raiola’s de-commitment from Ohio State in December, Wiltfong entered a Crystal Ball prediction for Georgia to land the services of the talented signal-caller. However, following Raiola’s spring visit to USC on March 5th, Wiltfong switched his prediction to USC.
Information trickling in to Dawgs Daily all but confirms the buzz on the ground in Athens. Sources indicated that Georgia's staff feels good about where they sit with Raiola and that a decision could come down the pike sooner rather than later. \
Moving forward, Raiola has a visit to Oregon planned for the Ducks’ spring game on April 29. Raiola has only scheduled one official visit to this point - a return trip to Athens the first week of June - adding more fuel to the momentum that Georgia appears to be building in his recruitment.
With a recruitment of this magnitude that has seen its fair share of momentum swings, nothing can be taken for granted, but recent developments indicate that not only have the Georgia Bulldogs gained the momentum in Raiola’s recruitment, but may, indeed, be positioned as the leader for the nation’s top high school prospect exiting the spring.
