Deion Colzie Talks Georgia and Updates Recruitment

Deion Colzie is a top target for Georgia in the 2021 class. He updates his recruitment process with Dawgs Daily today.

With the premium quarterback talent that was available at Tony Ballard's QB camp in Alpharetta, Georgia on Saturday comes premium wide receiver talent as well.

SI All-American candidate, Deion Colzie was in attendance. The 6'4, 206-pound target is being heavily recruited by some of the biggest programs in the country on a weekly basis, including the home state Georgia Bulldogs.

I caught up with Colzie during the camp to have him update where he's at in his recruitment process right now.

The former Notre Dame commit narrowed it back down to a Top-10 back in June, but there are five schools that really stick out to him right now.

"I'd have to say Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Notre Dame, and Georgia" Colzie on which schools stand out the most

When asked which coaches at those programs he's developed a relationship, he wasted no time talking about Coach Cortez Hankton:

"Definitely got a good relationship with coach Hankton at UGA. Coach Gonzalez at Florida, and coach Wiggins at Alabama. A lot of coaches really, I've been strong relationships."

As for what he likes about coach Hankton, Colzie appreciates that he's straight to the point when recruiting and he trusts that if he were to play for Hankton at Georgia, he'd be developed into an NFL caliber receiver.

Colzie attends Athens Academy and plays in the same region as Prince Avenue where Georgia commit, Brock Vandagriff plays. The two are the highest-rated players in Single-A football here in the state of Georgia and they enjoy playing against each other.

"Pretty good. You know, the past couple years have been really fun going against him. Last year, unfortunately, we couldn't go against him because of his injury. But I feel like this is gonna be a really good game. He's a great player. Good arm talent. He's got great feet. And so I felt like it's going to be a good game"

Colzie plans to narrow his list down a bit further prior to the school year beginning but doesn't have any plans on making a commitment anytime soon. He would like to get back on some of these campuses to really get a feel for the environment and culture.

He says this time, he wants to take his time. He felt that he rushed his commitment to Notre Dame and that's why he backed out and opened things up again. He did tell me however that Notre Dame is still in the mix and still recruits him heavily and growing up, that was his dream school.
