Georgia Recruiting: MVP Camp Recap, Top Performers

The MVP Camps are always a great place to find under the radar talents, though Sunday there were plenty of Power 5 football players in attendance.

When over 300 athletes are competing on one field, it's hard to narrow down a list of top performers. Though at the MVP Camp in Alpharetta, Georgia this weekend, several players really caught my eye.

And though the MVP camp was created by Rusty Mansell and Chad Simmons to shine some light on lesser-known players, there were several guys with Power-5 offers in attendance this weekend.

Daniel Martin, 2022 Hybrid* - Marietta High (GA)

College football needs guys like this rolling around their defense. At 6'3, 190 pounds he looks nothing like a traditional linebacker, and he's longer than most traditional safeties, and he can do just about anything on the defensive side of the football from cover in man to man situations to rushing the passer. He worked out with both the linebackers and the defensive backs and dominated physically on Sunday.

Justin Benton, 2023 DL* - Newton High (GA)

Everyone knows about Benton by now. The rising sophomore has a dozen Power 5 offers and will be able to pick from his choice of schools when he is ready to make his decision including Georgia, but he was one of the two best players in attendance, so he makes this list. Simple as that.

AJ Brown, 2022 DB - Walton High (GA)

I've seen Brown several times at this point, and there's plenty to love about his frame and overall body composition, but I haven't seen him in a 1on1 situation up to this point. And boy did I get plenty of him Sunday. He took more reps than any other defensive back and he won nearly every rep. The Walton High School prospect has a Boston College offer already, with more likely on the way.

Marcus Allen, 2022 DB - Walton High (GA)

He's AJ Brown's counterpart out at Walton High School and he's got every bit of the frame you could possibly imagine with quite a bit of genetics on his side as well. He's one of the fastest rising defensive backs in the class and he flashed why on Sunday. Ole Miss, Miss State, Virginia all offered in the last week, and that's not going to be where it stops.

Kamryn Perry, 2022 WR - Marietta High (GA)

There's an insane amount of twitch in this young man's body, and unlike a lot of young wide receivers with this much speed, he's extremely smooth in and out of his breaks. He's got a Kentucky offer, but that's about it as of now. There's going to be concerns about his frame, considering he's 5'9 161 pounds, but good luck guarding him. As you can see below:

Raul Aguirre, 2023 LB - Locust Grove (GA)

Rising sophomores shouldn't look like this. Aguirre played as a freshman last season at Locust Grove and both times I've seen him this summer, you can't keep the kid off the field. He's constantly vying for reps and he's constantly winning them. He's going to be a recruit to watch moving forward. He's got Power-5 written all over him.

Johnathan Brown, 2021 DL - Riverwood (GA)

Brown led the state in sacks last year with 21.0 as a Junior, and yet there's not much interest for the defensive end for some reason. He's got incredible length and is a really fluid athlete. He played at 200 pounds this fall and is up to 230 pounds as of Sunday and has maintained the explosiveness.

Daniel Calhoun, 2024 OL - Centennial (GA)

6'6, 325 pounds and he hasn't enrolled in high school yet. There's not much else to say. He also plays basketball and there's promising athleticism in an incredibly large frame.

Drew Bobo, 2022 OL - Hammond (SC)

The son of South Carolina offensive coordinator, Mike Bobo it's evident he's been well trained and cleaned up in terms of the technique. An effortless kick slide with good body lean.

Kris Phillips, 2022 OL - Salem (GA)

With an offer from Arizona State already, Phillips has major power-5 potential. He's got a strong anchor as well. I think he's best served playing guard on the college level considering the play strength and overall size though the tape is riddled with athleticism.

DL, Beau Shugarts and Johnathan Brown

Honorable Mention:

  • Pearce Spurlin III, 2023 WR/TE - 6'6 with fluid body patterns, Spurlin was at Walton High School in Marietta, Ga but has moved down to South Walton High in Florida. He's already received a Nebraska offer.
  • Beau Shugarts, 2021 DL - This young man lives in the weight room and it's apparent. He weighed in at right around 250 pounds and played with great pad level all day during 1on1's. Mid majors are flooding the offer sheet as of now.
  • Zak Rozsman, 2022 QB - I thought Rozsman threw it better than I've seen him throw before. The Walton high QB looked great as a freshman but took a step back as a sophomore and he could be back to form.
  • Sam M'Bake, 2021 WR - M'Bake is as physical as they come at the wide receiver position, and he used that physicality on Sunday.
  • CJ Allen, 2023 LB - The Lamar County prospect is extremely long and physical with a level of comfortability in space that is rare for someone his age and size.
  • Jaylin Watson, 2021 DB - Watson may have had one of the more physically impressive builds of the DBs group on Sunday. I thought he moved exceptionally well and competed throughout the day.
