Georgia Recruiting: QBs come from all over Southeast and Beyond to Compete

Hustle Inc's Tony Ballard hosted a QB camp Saturday and players from all over the Southeast and beyond came to compete. Today, we take a look at who flashed.

Tony Ballard is the mastermind behind one of the best 7on7 programs in the Southeast, Hustle Inc, but he is more commonly known for his quarterback training prowess. If there's a QB in the area, odds are he's worked with them at some point. Either he or Ron Veal.

Saturday in Alpharetta, Ballard hosted a QB camp that saw more than 30 quarterbacks make their way from as far as Texas and Chicago, Illinois to soak up the knowledge and competition. Today, we take a look at those who flashed.

Bryce Archie, 2022 QB

We told you about the McEachern signal-caller back in June, and needless to say, he's no longer a sleeper of a prospect. He's up to 93 MPH on the mound as a rising Junior, and he flashed every bit of that arm strength Saturday. He had by far the best day, including a 65+ yard bomb to end the workout. Archie has just offers from FIU and FAU, but that's going to change rather quickly.

Of course, with the level of a prospect that he is in Baseball, I just don't know if he ever makes it on to a college campus. He's got first-rounder written all over him on the Diamond.

Cam'ron

Cam'Ron Ranson, 2021

A physical specimen, at 6'3 215 pounds, the Armwood High School product is one of the more sought after quarterbacks in the state of Florida in the 2021 class. Lefties can prove to be a bit of an issue in terms of the difference in rotation, but despite having a rifle of an arm, Ranson throws a rather catchable football.

He's certainly a "first off the bus" award winner and the athleticism was fully on display throughout the workout.

AJ Swann, 2022

I'm a big fan of Swann's. I've seen him probably two dozens times over the last six months and the arm talent is impressive each and every time. It's a quick, effortless flick and he throws with great anticipation and timing. It's a loaded class in 2022 at the quarterback position here in the state of Georgia, and I take Swann with just about anybody in terms of arm talent.

The lack of spring ball and summer camps has really hindered his recruitment, but there's still some serious ACC and other Power 5 interest coming his way. And he's a much better athlete than the physical profile would lead you to believe.

Dontrell

Dontrell Jackson, 2022

Anybody that drives 10 hours down from Chicago, Illinois to Alpharetta, Georgia, and performs like Jackson did on Saturday gets my vote. Sure, there's not exactly a Cam'Ron Ranson level of physicality with Jackson, but there's even more life in his right arm. The ball just jumps out and I don't think I saw him throw anything but a tight spiral during a grueling 4-hour workout in the blazing heat.

There's plenty of interest from Illinois and other mid-major schools, but I don't think that's where he will end up. Bigger programs will find this young man when he gets back onto a high school field.

JC French, 2022

French is on his way to Blessed Trinity High School for his final two seasons of high school football after starting out at Wesleyan. And though he doesn't have the overwhelming arm strength, he throws with excellent ball placement. Wake Forrest and Akron have offered already, but there could be more on the way.

RJ Johnson, 2023

Johnson is another one of these quarterbacks that I've seen well over a dozen times at this point, and this is perhaps the best I've ever seen him sling it. He threw with great pace and considering how young he is, there's a considerable amount of zip coming from his rather impressive frame.

With the talent surrounding him at Westlake this fall, he should be in store for a tremendous season if he wins the job as he should.

Notables:

  • Kamari McClellan, 2024
  • Prentiss "Air" Nolan, 2024
  • Ty Walton, 2023

Of course, some of these prospects are on Georgia's radar, but none are major targets at this point apart from Archie who's received an offer from Georgia in baseball. Though MJ Morris was in attendance, he did not work out and Gunner Stockton wasn't their either.
